Launch Party Collection

This March 15^th, KBShimmer is launching its debut collection featuring the all new look. Matte black and holographic foil accented boxes, brushed silver logo imprinted on the bottle, and 5 free base set the bar high for KBShimmer’s 10^th year in business. 10 Years, Where Has The Time Gone?

It seems like just yesterday I was in Florida on vacation wanting to spend too much money on bath goodies. Little did my husband know that the encouragement to make instead of buy would lead to the birth of KBShimmer and take us to where we are today.

I thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane, to show you just where we started and how far we have come in the 10 years since KBShimmer was born.

KBShimmer started with soap and bath bombs. I spent hours working on batch after batch, making sure that our formula was just right. I played with colors, with scents, different looks, until I was happy with how they felt in the shower. It was glorious.

Until we ran out of space! Soon I was kicked out of the kitchen and into the basement, where my husband Jason set up a workshop for me. It was tiny, but it was my own space and I had a whole rack I could fill with soap and other products. Man I was thrilled, and I started to play with scrubs to match my soaps.

Soon the shelves where overflowing. So I decided to take my wares to the local craft shows. We needed a name, and what could be more perfect then using my daughters nick name, Katy Bug as inspiration. We settled on KBShimmer, but before we sold to the public, we needed a logo. I turned on my computer, downloaded a funky font and created what I thought was the most beautiful logo and label ever.

But wait, it gets better. I thought there is only one way to improve a lady bug logo!

Let’s give it grass and sky! I worked so long making sure that the clouds were perfectly behind my logo and product, but soon I decided to ditch the grass.

I hand cut each and every one of those labels. It was a lot of work and took so much time. But I thought it looked amazing! I used that logo for quite a while and we lovingly took out products to craft shows across the state and soon joined Etsy to sell online.

And I improved my photo skills along the way too!

But as you improve, other things start to look tired and old. So in early 2011 I tagged in a designer for a new logo. I was attached to my lady bug as it represented my daughter, so I wanted to include that along with some feminine elements. You can see how we got from the first designer suggestion, to where we are currently at with our logo in early 2018.

But of course we did not stop with a logo change. We updated the packaging to reflect the new logo, and coordinated a swoosh and a color to go along with each scent.

We are looking fancy now! We also launched nail polish in 2011! We had labeled each bottle, and used a syringe to fill. Batches we made in mason jars. It was so exciting to see the polishes going to so many people!

I thought we were rockin’. I loved the labels on the bottles, the logo was fresh and new, and business was growing. As soon as we could source base in large quantities, we added polish to our website, and kept all the shades in stock at all times. It was a lot of work, but we wanted our customers to be able to shop at any time, not just during launches and restocks.

As polish was always available, you guys kept us busy! We filled more shelves with polish, took over more of the basement, and soon I had my husband helping pack orders. As business picked up, we took a leap of faith and ordered printed bottles, launched a new website and scaled up our batches.

From there days got longer, and my husband joined KBShimmer full time. Soon every inch of space was filled. ad we were busting at the seams. Semi drivers were coming to our house, and the business took over.

So took the biggest leap of faith yet. We decided it was time to move! So in April 2013 we rented a warehouse! Welcome to KBShimmer HQ.

It was not long before we needed to expand, taking over additional space in the warehouse area and we built out a production area and kept shipping in our original space.

It was in 2015 that we needed to make some packaging changes. We wanted a fresh new look for KBShimmer, so we dug in, took some branding courses, and tagged in a designer to freshen up the look of our body products. We learned a lot about websites as crashes kept us busy every launch. Early in 2016 we revamped our website and almost solved the website crash problem.

So 10 years later we are still going strong. We now employ 2 full time people in addition to my husband and I, one part time employee and 1 independent contractor. Not to mention my poor webmaster who is always getting emails from me. We are looking forward to bring on more staff and have some fantastic surprises up our sleeves.

2017 was a great year for KBShimmer, and we wanted to share some of our proudest accomplishments, and here they are, by the numbers! So sit back and join us as we give you some insight into where 2017 took us, and maybe a hint of what 2018 will bring!

Facebook: We ended the year on a Facebook high, with over 195,000 fans!

Instagram: We love you as much as the 109,645 hearts you gave us in 2017.

Shipping Ninjas: We kept the post office busy with over 32,000 packages shipped out, and that does not include FedEx!

Multi Chrome Madness: For the second year in a row, Shade Shifter was our most popular polish with 14,231 bottles sold.

Clearly On Top: You love our topcoat, with over 2,200 orders containing top coat!

New Shades: We added over 80 new colors in 2017, including several limited edition and group exclusives.

On The Road: We packed our bags and attended 5 shows this year, including 1 pro show!

2017 was a fantastic year for us, full of fun, laughter and joy. 2018 is already starting out with a bang!

New New New!!: We have a new staff member that started in 2018, we are super excited to have Jena on board.

New Scents: You tested, we tallied, and 4 new scents will be coming your way in 2018.

And Much, Much More! We have lots up our sleeves with new colors, new scents, and so many exciting things happening that we can not wait to share. 2018 will be our best year ever!

Hella Holo Customs (HHC) was created two years ago for fans of holographic polishes of all types. Each month, group members submit inspiration photos for makers, then vote on those photos. None Of Your Bismuth

Based on the multichrome crystal photo that captures a metallic rainbow of colors, this truly unique multichrome was blended with several different pigments to shift from a teal green, to aqua blue, to fuchsia pink and purple. This spectrum of color is accented by a strong linear holo. This polish is very unique, and it looks different in varying forms of light. If soft, indirect light, you see more of the greens and purples, while brighter light brings out the blues and holo. In strong sunlight, the holo really shines and the polish looks teal and green, and sometimes it appears almost like a dark navy. It really is amazing how many personalities this polish has. 2-3 coats recommended

Deep Hue Sea

Inspired by the shadows and fuchsia shades of sunset, Deep Hue Sea is a charcoal holo with strong violet pink shimmer, appearing almost as deep bruised purple in certain lights. In low lighting, it appears black, with pink and violet shimmer popping out, while in bright light, it looks more dark purple and pink with a strong linear holo. 2 Coats recommended

Tall Pink Of Water

When the sun sets, and the sky is just right, beautiful flashes of orange, fuchsia, magenta and dark purple fill the sky. This holo polish captures the bright fuchsia and magenta tones of the suns setting rays. This pink polish is packed with linear holo pigment for one of our strongest holos yet. 2 coats recommended

Shoe The Blues Away

Based on the glittery shoe, Shoe The Blues Away is a vibrant cobalt blue shade is super holographic, with the holo pigment adding pops of lighter aqua against the deep blue color. This polish almost has a inner glow in some lighting, with the way the holo shows. 2 coats recommended

Staple Relationship – Somedays it seems like the stapler is the best work relationship you have, that is, until you cast your eyes on this metallic shade on your tips! Silvery flakes and holo sparkle add shine to this deepened gray polish. While not a true Liquid Metal finish, this shade still has a great metallic finish with subtle purple undertones. Best in 2 coats

KBShimmer Behind The Scenes Tour

Ever wonder if KBShimmer polishes are made by little elves in trees with magic dust, or if our products come out of a big factory in China? Well, though we often come out of our place looking like we were sprinkled by Tink, KBShimmer is based right here in the USA, in Terre Haute, IN. Most of our ingredients are sourced and made right here in the USA (including our nail polish base). And I (Christy) still personally make each soap bar, bottle of lotion, and mani shot that heads to your door; while my husband and staff help with scrubs, cuticle oils and the glitter nail polish. Any products we offer that are not personally made by us (top coat, base coat, nail tools, etc) are carefully sourced or we had them custom designed/made for us! No elves in trees involved.

Here is your ticket to the behind the scenes tour of the KBShimmer “factory”, I hope you enjoy!

When you walk in our front door, you enter into our office areas. Here we have Krishna’s desk, Krishna is not only our customer service guru, she handles our bookkeeping and is our Sister-In-Law. She most often works from home now as she has a young baby. My “photo studio” is also in the front room.

Here my office. Yes, I work in a state of disorganization! I can’t help it. My mind goes 100 miles per hour, so that means I rarely stay focused enough to put stuff away. My desk is also always littered with polish prototypes. These photos were taken back when we were finalizing Spring, back in October of 2014.

Off the office area, we have a small kitchen area we use for curing soaps. Look at those empty shelves, we have a lot of soap to make!

Next we have the shipping area. This is Sami and Rhonda’s domain. They handle all our shipping and are the reason you get your packages shipped crazy fast!

Next we have the production area. Our production area is split into two sides, with a table for pouring polish and labeling bath products in between. The right side is our polish area, and the left is for bath and body. Hi Rhonda!

We start with a shelf of empty bottles, jars for lotions, scrubs, etc, and brushes and caps for polish.

Here is a closer look at the polish side. You can see the red fire cabinets that we store polish base in, and a larger drum of polish base. You can also see the table we mix on, some of our liquid color pigments, and the shelves where we house the glitters and powdered pigments. We also have a few boxes with glitters that still need to be put away.

This is a bit old, but at one point we did have all our glitter put away. We have added two more shelves since then for glitter. I may have a glitter problem 😉 Not the best video, but you get the idea. If the video below does not show, you can follow this link: Youtube

Here are the gallon containers we use for mixing up polish, and the squirt bottles we use for filling bottles.

Here is Rhonda capping bottles. You can also see our filling machine we use for really large batches off to the right.

Then is my area for bath and body production. You can see our shelves with ingredients. Here I also have buckets of lye mixed up for soap making as at time the soap shelves were really empty!

Here I have raw ingredients for soaps, lotions, scrubs, etc. Our big mixer for larger batches of scrubs.

Here is our mixer again, and another production table for bath products and an oven. You can also see a pallet of empty polish bottles here.

Here is our 2nd floor balcony. We store shipping supplies up there, like packing peanuts.

Our second floor has turned into a storage area, along with holding Jason’s office.

Last we are back down to the shipping area, where we have our bay door for deliveries, and storage of shipping supplies.

Winter Collection 2014

Winter can not come fast enough here at KBShimmer headquarters, at least when it comes to polish collections! We have a huge winter line up for you, with 12 new polishes, 5 returning Christmas Classics, and fantastic promos. But enough with the text, lets jump into the new polishes! BIG thanks to Gaby of LacquerLoon for the swatch pictures in this post.

New For 2014

Let’s Sleigh Together: A pale gray creally, this muted polish features hex glitters in green, navy and pale mint, circles glitters in blueberry and micro holographic glitters for shine and sparkle. 2-3 Coats Recommended

White Here, White Now (Texture): This snowy white polish is a blustery addition to our textured collection. Two coats offer more coverage than any blizzard. Please note, the full textured effect does not show until polish is fully dry.

Holly Back Girl: A white creally with a delicate sprinkling of red and green metallic glitters that almost appear like candy sprinkles on the nail. Best in 3 coats or layered over white.

Pine-ing For Yule: 2014 Toys For Tots ® charity polish. A holiday inspired glitter top coat, this polish is swimming with holographic triangle “Christmas Trees” and red star tree toppers. Sliver holo hex and micro glitters complete this wintery polish. For each bottle sold at KBShimmer.com from 11/01 until 12/25 $4 will be donated to Tots For Tots ®. 1 Coat Recommended.

Turnip The Beet (Texture): A rich sangria colored base accents holographic glitters in magenta, purple and red making this a super sparkly textured polish. 2 Coats Recommended

Dressed To Gild (Texture): A gold cousin to Hexy Bikini, this textured polish is rich with holographic gold glitters. Hints of lavender and lime glitters add depth and extra shine. 2 Coats Recommended

Too Cold To Hold (Texture): A rich sapphire blue base is filled with holographic sliver, blue, and green holographic glitters for a bejeweled textured look. 2 Coats Recommended

Flake Dance: Sliver holographic snowflakes dance among a scattering of smaller silver holographic glitters. Use over your favorite cream color for an instant wintery manicure. 1 dabbed on Coat Recommended, Glitter Placement may be needed.

Fallen Angle: A vibrant royal blue jelly, this a-cute polish features holographic blue triangles, sliver holo hexes, and blue hex glitters with micro sparkles. 3 Coats Recommended

Mauve On Over: A pale mauve creally base sets off a explosion of colored hexes in orange, navy and aqua. 2-3 Coats Recommended

Deja Brew: Like a rich cup of java, or a quality cognac, this brown polish has red undertones that set off the linear holographic rainbow. 2-3 Coats Recommended

Spot Sign: Like a wild cat ready to pounce, this spotted polish is ready to bring out our wild side. Black leopard spot shaped glitters are accented by black dots, small black hexes and micro holographic sparkle. 1 dabbed on Coat Recommended, Glitter Placement may be needed.

Merry Pinkmas: A light cotton candy pink polish featuring red, green and neon glitters in a variety of shapes. 2-3 Coats Recommended

All Decked Out: A Christmas Tree inspired polish with a deep forest green jelly base with a rainbow of hex glitters and a scattering of gold stars. 3 Coats Recommended

Snow Way: This snow inspired polish features a pale sky blue creally base with white glitters. A micro sparkle glistens like fallen snow on a clear winter’s day. 3 Thin Coats Recommended, Let coats dry before moving onto next to avoid dragging.

Sugar Plum Faerie: A soft plum violet crelly with berry, purple and lime colored metallic holographic glitters in different sizes. 2-3 Coats Recommended
